Here are some favorite ways to eat crab.

First off, there is the nasty business of preparing the crab for cooking.. I don't just drop the live crabs into the boiling water..

For those of you that are squeamish, get someone else to read this. Preferably the person doing the cleaning.

In order to clean a crab, you must be careful not to get grabbed of course. So you grab the crab from behind and then quickly turning it over. Then you can slide your hands along the legs fairly safely. When you have a firm grip on the crab simply bring it swiftly down onto a sharp corner of some sort, busting the poor thing in two. Then discard the shell, gills and gooey stuff. It is best if you either bury the shells right away or take them back to the sea. They can get pretty smelly if just left in the garbage. Rinse the body and then place in boiling water and cook for 10 minutes. Serve with a damp cloth and a bowl of melted butter and garlic. Don't forget the pliers to crack the shells with.

There is a list of recipes below. ENJOY!!!

Hot Crab Dip in Rye Boat

Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) container soft cream cheese
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
1 (6 ounce) can crab meat, drained
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
1 round loaf of rye bread
1 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions: Heat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Combine the cream cheese, milk, mayonnaise, horseradish, crab meat, and celery salt. Mix until creamy. Spread mixture into an 8 x 12 inch baking dish and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Meanwhile, cut a circle out of the top of the bread and scoop out the inside. Tear the inside into pieces for dipping. Remove the mixture from the oven and spoon into hollowed bread. Cover the top with the shredded cheese and more seasoning. Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake until the cheese is melted. Serve hot with the bread pieces on the side.

By all means feel quite free to substitute fresh crab meat for the canned stuff. Even the artificial meat is not too bad when used in a dish with lots of flavour.
